Who are you and what do you do?

’m Evi, social cultural worker with a big passion for sustainable food. I organize cooking sessions that focus on the reduction of  food waste. I show people how to use the left overs and how to enjoy the fun of recycling and upcycling. I am a social entrepreneur with a focus on both environmental and social impact.

Cooking together inspires people and enhances mutual trust. This trust leads to confidence in our self and others, makes us stronger. This leads to higher social resilience in the community.

I don’t do this alone. I am part of a team in the vzw De Stuyverij that started: Quatre Car. This truck, which is actually a mobile kitchen, will attend to social communities, organizations and companies.

What competences would make you a good Generation T?

I love to cook good with good food and have experience with workshops for groups up to 30 people.

I also have a clear vision on the way cooking and workshops about food waste can inspire people for a better world.  I teach people to be creative with food waste and enjoy cooking and eating together.

In the vzw De Stuyverij, I learn(ed) how to build something together and how to run a social entreprise. For 6 months I’m working on the project Quatre Car. With other volunteers, chefs, interested people from different backgrounds and different cultures we work with passion to create something good for the society.

Give specific example(s) on how your projects or activities make a difference and initiate change.

The Quatre Car is a mobil kitchen truck that will be used targeting different customer groups.

In co-operation with our partner OCMW Kortrijk we will cook on a regular weekly  basis in disadvantaged neighborhoods. In cooperation with the social workers we will entice locals to cook and consume together.

In co-operation with Oxfam-Wereldwinkels we will visit schools and other contacts of Oxfam to promote Fair Trade food and food recycling.

We present team buildings, 4 hour training for around 15 people in and around the truck. At the end, the prepared food is consumed with the group of the organization.

Our message of social entrepreneurship, food recycling and the use of Fair food is transmitted throughout the whole process.
